DESCRIPTION

The SMU-1000/4A is designed for use with single conductor wrist straps, for continuous capacitive wrist-strap monitoring. The SMU-1000/4A also features continuous resistive monitoring of bench-tops and both earth ground and electrical ground. A second passive wrist-strap jack is also provided for guests. The wrist-strap trip level and the alarm loudness are customer adjustable. The ground and bench-top trip levels may be custom set. The SMU-1000-4A is compatible with the ASC-300 Automated Static Control System.

SPECIFICATIONS

FUNCTIONS: Continuously monitors single-wire wrist straps for opens or excessive resistance. Continuously monitors the workstation surface resistance to ground and the integrity of both the electrical ground and the earth ground.

WRIST STRAP MONITORING: The SMU-1000A and the SMU-1000-4A use the body capacitance principle for continuous monitoring of single-conductor wrist straps with a 1.0 Megohm series resistor. The unit will alarm for a series resistance greater than approximately 2.0 Megohms, and a capacitance of less than approximately 50pF. The trip-point is internally adjustable. A passive guest jack is included.

WORKSTATION SURFACE MONITORING: The unit will alarm for workstation surface to ground resistances of 0 and more than 50 Megohms. These trip-points are factory adjustable to smaller or larger values.

GROUND QUALITY MONITORING: The unit will alarm if the loop resistance of the electrical ground and the earth ground exceeds 100 ohms. This trip-point may be factory set to smaller or larger values.

AUDIBLE ALARM LOUDNESS: Internally adjustable.

OUTPUTS: SMU-1000A: 5 volt logic signal for remote monitoring or data acquisition. SMU-1000-4A: 4 digital data lines through an RJ-11 connector, for use with the ASC-300 Automated Static Control System.

OPERATIONAL INDICATORS: Red and green LEDs and a piezoelectric beeper. Green LEDs: ON for "PASS" condition. Red EDs: ON until "FAIL" condition is corrected. Audible Alarm: ON for 3 seconds following a "FAIL" condition. All failure conditions must be corrected to re-set the audible alarm.

POWER REQUIREMENTS: A UL/CSA approved, grounded AC plug-in power adaptor rated at 120 VAC, 60 Hz, 10W is included. A "tabletop" adaptor for 230 VAC, 50 Hz is optionally available.

DIMENSIONS: 4 3/8" L x 3 1/4" W x 1 1/2" H (Approx.)

MOUNTING: Hook-and-loop self-adhesive strip, or metal bracket.
